We suggest that every new patient receive a comprehensive exam with all necessary x-rays during their first appointment. This visit generally takes an hour and may not include a cleaning depending on the doctor’s findings and determined treatment plans. At this visit, your dentist will perform the following:
Review past medical history, health and systems review, medication, and allergy background
Review dental history, oral habits, oral hygiene, and the recording of a chief complaint or concern
Complete dental charting of existing restorations, visible decay, gingival (gum) examination, and recording of all other findings
Extraoral head and neck examination
Intraoral tissue evaluation and cancer screening
TMJ evaluation
Visual inspection of occlusion (bite) stability, mobility, wear patterns, and nerve damage
Discuss findings, treatment options, and any other patient concerns
